How We Use Your Information

  1. Run the calculators and show your results.
  2. Answer your questions and fix reported errors.
  3. Measure which pages help people, so we can improve them.
  4. Show ads that help pay for the site.
  5. Protect the site from spam, abuse and security threats.
  6. Meet legal duties, such as answering a valid privacy request.

We do not use your information to make decisions about you, such as credit or job decisions. Nor do we combine it with data from other sources to build a profile of you.

Google Analytics, Google AdSense and Cookies

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see how people use the site. Google may set cookies or read similar identifiers on your device to do this. You can stop Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its ad partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, limit how often you see one, and, unless you opt out, personalize ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can also change your ad settings at Google Ads Settings.

Visitors in regions that require consent may see a consent message first. Our cookie policy lists each cookie and shows how to change your choices.

How We Share Information

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the site: Google (analytics, advertising and email), and our hosting provider. They may use it only to provide those services, and under their own privacy terms.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and its visitors from fraud and abuse. If we ever sell or transfer the site, the new owner would take over this policy.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Under some US state laws, however, ad cookies from Google can count as “sharing” for targeted advertising. See the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page to opt out.

  1. Use the privacy choices link.

Open “Privacy choices” in the footer to change your cookie and ad choices at any time.

Your Rights Under This Privacy Policy

Your US state rights

If you live in a state with a privacy law, such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas or Oregon, you can ask to know, correct or delete your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising. We offer these choices to every US visitor and reply within 45 days.

Here is what you can ask us to do.

  1. Tell you what personal information we hold about you, and with whom we share it.
  2. Correct information that is wrong.
  3. Delete your personal information.
  4. Stop sharing it for targeted advertising, or selling it where that applies.
  5. Treat you the same whether or not you use these rights.

To make a request, email us or use the contact form and choose “Privacy request.” We may ask you to confirm the email address you used, so we do not share information with the wrong person. You can also ask an authorized agent to act for you.

Retention, Security and Children

How long we keep information. We keep contact messages for up to 24 months, then delete them. The hashed spam-protection value lasts one hour. Analytics data follows the retention setting in our Google Analytics account. Remembered calculator entries stay on your device until you clear them or press the reset button.

How we protect it. We serve the site over HTTPS and use reasonable safeguards. However, no website can promise perfect security, so please never send sensitive numbers in a message.

Children. FiftyStatePay is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child sent us something, tell us and we will delete it. The FTC explains children’s privacy rules for parents and sites.

Our pages link to sites we do not control, such as the IRS and state tax agencies. Their privacy practices are their own. Please read their policies when you leave this site.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy when our practices or the law change. When we do, we will change the date at the top. If a change is material, we will also say so on this page before it takes effect.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Privacy Policy

Does FiftyStatePay store my salary?

No. The calculator runs in your browser, and the figures you type are not sent to our server. If your browser allows it, the page remembers your last entries on your own device, and the reset button clears them.

Does FiftyStatePay sell my data?

We do not sell personal information for money. However, ad cookies from Google may count as sharing under some state laws, and you can opt out on the Do Not Sell or Share page.

How do I opt out of personalized ads?

Open the privacy choices link in the footer, or turn off personalization in Google Ads Settings. You can also use the Digital Advertising Alliance and Network Advertising Initiative opt-out pages.

How do I delete my data?

Email us or use the contact form with the topic “Privacy request.” We will delete your messages and reply within 45 days. To remove local entries, press the calculator reset button or clear your browser data.

How long do you keep my messages?

Up to 24 months, and then we delete them. If you ask us to delete a message sooner, we will.

Does the calculator work if I block cookies?

Yes. Blocking cookies does not stop the calculators. You may lose remembered entries and your light or dark choice, so you would need to set them again on each visit.

General information
