How the Florida Paycheck Calculator Works

Quick answer

Type your yearly salary, or choose hourly and enter your rate and hours. Then select how often you are paid and your W-4 filing status. The Florida paycheck calculator subtracts federal income tax, 6.2% Social Security and 1.45% Medicare, and it shows your net pay per check and per year.

  1. Enter salary or hourly pay.

Hourly workers can add overtime hours and tips or commissions per paycheck.

  2. Choose your pay frequency.

Weekly, every two weeks, twice a month or monthly. Check your pay stub if you are not sure.

  3. Match your federal W-4.

Filing status, the two-jobs box in Step 2 and dependent credits in Step 3 all change your federal tax.

  4. List pre-tax deductions.

401(k), health insurance and HSA contributions lower your federal income tax.

  5. Review and save.

Does Florida Have State Income Tax?

Quick answer

No. Florida does not tax personal income, and its constitution bars a state income tax on individuals. That means no Florida tax line on your pay stub and no state withholding form to fill out. Federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare still apply to every Florida paycheck.

Article VII, Section 5 of the Florida Constitution limits income taxes to corporations and similar entities. So, unlike most states, Florida cannot simply pass a law to tax your wages; it would first need to amend the constitution.

Instead, Florida relies on a 6% state sales tax plus local surtaxes, along with property taxes and tourism. As a result, renters and homeowners may feel costs that a paycheck calculator cannot show.

Florida Reemployment Tax Is Paid by Employers

Florida’s unemployment program is called reemployment tax. Employers pay it to the Florida Department of Revenue, so it does not come out of your check. Florida also has no state disability insurance or paid leave premium.

Florida Paycheck Example: $60,000 Salary

Quick answer

Worked exampleStep by step: a $60,000 Florida paycheck

Start with gross pay per check: $60,000 ÷ 26 = $2,307.69.

  1. Social Security at 6.2%: $143.08
  2. Medicare at 1.45%: $33.46
  3. Federal income tax: the IRS worksheet takes $8,600 off $60,000, leaving $51,400. The 2026 table gives $5,020 for the year, so $193.08 per paycheck.
  4. Florida income tax: none

So the paycheck you keep is $1,938.08, which is about 84% of your gross pay.

A single Florida worker keeps about $34,320 of a $40,000 salary, $61,592 of $75,000 and $79,180 of $100,000 in 2026. Because Florida adds no income tax, these match Texas and the other no-tax states. Only federal brackets and FICA make the share fall as pay rises.

Florida vs. Other States: How Much More Do You Keep?

Florida Paycheck Tips for Retirees, Remote Workers and Bonuses

Remote workers living in Florida

If you live in Florida and work remotely for a company in another state, you usually owe no state tax on those wages. A few states, such as New York, can still tax remote work under a "convenience of the employer" rule. In that case, ask your employer which state they withhold for.

Bonuses in Florida

Florida does not tax bonuses. Most employers withhold a flat 22% federal tax on a bonus paid separately. A $5,000 bonus therefore leaves about $3,517.50 after federal tax and FICA.

Retirees with a part-time job

Florida does not tax pensions, Social Security or IRA withdrawals either. However, a part-time paycheck still has federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare withheld. Social Security benefits may also be taxed federally, depending on your total income.

How to Keep More of Your Florida Paycheck

Quick answer

Pre-tax savings are the main lever, since Florida has no state tax to cut. On a $75,000 salary, a 6% 401(k) contribution saves $173.08 per paycheck for retirement but lowers take-home pay by only $135.00, because federal income tax drops by $38.08.

  1. Contribute to a 401(k) or 403(b). The 2026 limit is $24,500, with an $8,000 catch-up at age 50 and older.
  2. Pay health premiums and HSA contributions through your employer’s cafeteria plan. They also skip Social Security and Medicare.
  3. Review your W-4 after marriage, a new baby or a second job.
  4. Run the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator if you got a large refund or owed money last year.

Why a Florida Pay Stub Can Differ From the Calculator

The Florida paycheck calculator follows federal payroll formulas exactly. Still, your real pay stub may show a different number for one of these reasons:

  1. Health, dental or vision premiums and other benefits.
  2. Extra federal withholding you asked for on your W-4.
  3. Garnishments, union dues or other after-tax deductions.
  4. Tips reported to your employer, which are taxed through payroll.
  5. High year-to-date wages, after which Social Security stops for the year.
